My god, have we really come to this?

We are now worried about middle school students hugging? Hugging?!?! What the hell are they teaching these kids? That all forms of human contact should be regulated by 'those-who-know-more' and should make us feel uncomfortable in every way?
Okay, I get the inappropriate thing, but come on!
I could be wrong ,but who hasn't had a hug linger too long, or been on the giving end of one? Didn't you deal with it all right? No trauma? Especially in middle school. These are the years that you start exploring/developing how you are going to interact with the opposite sex, or not, depending on your leanings. It seems to me this principal is interfering with the children's social growth, and sense of independence.
Should everyone rely on an authority figure to resolve anything for them by creating a 'rule'? If you are programming robots perhaps, but I have the strong opinion that we should be teaching kids to think for themselves, and at least resolve personal issues amongst themselves.
Is it really such a bad thing to give someone/receive a hug? I guess shouldn't be surprised the U.S. has never seemed to have too much of a problem making laws against what happens in people's bedrooms, but this seems excessive even for them. Hopefully someone higher up will put a stop to it, or even better the parents will rise up and put an end to this nonsense. That would give me some hope for the kids eventually growing into well-adjusted productive members of society.
I guess I should have some sort of witty remark to end this, but I'll end with this instead.
HUGS.

In the article they said they are only banning it because it's become a problem. We're not talking one or two people hugging to say hello or goodbye - They are referring to a clogging of the halls, and lateness for classes.
It would seem on the surface that hugging is a cherished and harmless form of expression, but I'm going to take it a little further.
Considering it's a socially awkward time already as well as cliquey (sp?) to begin with, the now - over common practise of hugging is just reinforcing who is popular and who isn't.
Now johnny doesn't get the attention that others are getting. Johnny's going to buy a gun. - if they are hugging - it's really only one bullet for every two middleschoolers.

That is exactly the thing that I am railing(sp) against! For f-sake,let's teach our kids that 'everyone is special' and if you are not popular it is everyone else's fault, and they need to be shot. F-off! A socio/psychopath is just that.
I am increasingly of the opinion that as a society we are instilling such a 'me-me-me-I-am-so-special-and-important' on children that we are creating the horrifying situations of school shootings to some extent. Have kids become crueler since we wnet to school? I doubt it.
Sure, there are more tools for bully-ing. But did we not deal with the same s--t when we were kids, and do the parents not have some responsibility to teach how to deal with such abuse no matter the media?
I really think the school banning something like this is an over-reaction and trouncing of the kind of social development needed at that age.
